Nils CALE was born in 1966. He worked as a designer and a photographer and was keen on underground cinema and more specifically the poetic universe of Lynch, Wenders and Tarkovsky. He makes up composite worlds as tributes to the great masters of pop art.
That kind of montage calls to mind the famous founders like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Raoul Rauschenberg.
All his works are composed of hundreds of multimedia photos and collages.
Film excerpts, cut up photos, all sorts of pictorial scraps, paint samples... Each work is a huge visual clutter that takes on a coherent and powerful shape on the canvas.
